     Dennis G. Mertzanis

Forensic Engineer

Mr. Mertzanis joined Momentum Engineering Corp. in 2018. Prior to joining Momentum Engineering, he worked as a Powertrain Engineer for The Hyundai Motor Group where he was responsible for all powertrain related issues for Hyundai and Kia vehicles across the United States, Canada, and Central America. His automotive trouble-shooting skills were responsible for over two dozen vehicle Technical Service Bulletins (TSB). His think-outside-the-box approach earned him a strong reputation in the company by solving powertrain related issues that were seemingly impossible to solve.

His love for cars reaches as far back as his early childhood where he dreamed of being a professional race car driver. During his time as a Porsche mechanic, he began planning, training, and practicing for his professional racing career. In 2010, he earned a Pro License in the Formula Drift Pro Drifting Series. He built and campaigned 4 different vehicles over the 5 years he participated in Formula D. He traveled the country, worked with sponsors, and drifted vehicles that he built and tested; all while working a full-time engineering job. His advice for building a race car, "When you build a race car, you have to look at every detail of the vehicle and ask yourself if what you have done has the slightest chance of failure. If the answer is yes, then it must be changed." A metaphor for everything he does in his life.

Mr. Mertzanis earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA, in 2003. During his time in school, he held an internship at Toyota Manufacturing of Kentucky, participated in Formula SAE, and took powertrain related electives. His first job out of school was with The Boeing Company where he worked as a transmission design engineer for the Chinook CH47 tandem rotor helicopter. In 2008, he spent some time in Ohio, where he worked as an Engine Durability Test Engineer at Honda R&D Americas, Inc.

Since joining MEC, he has received training in many of the skills necessary for success in the accident reconstruction industry. He has been able to apply his personal and professional knowledge and experience to the field of accident reconstruction.
